We have a fascinating history spanning over 55 years. This journey can be broadly divided into three distinct phases, Phase 1: The Wild West (1969-1988), the late 60s and 70s witnessed the Indonesian music scene starting to bloom. We, like many other labels in the Indonesian National Recording Association (APNI), operated in a somewhat unregulated environment. At that time, Indonesia did not yet have established licensing regulations from the government. Western music enjoyed immense popularity, and obtaining licenses wasn't a primary concern. This wasn't necessarily a deliberate disregard for copyright, but rather a lack of awareness and formal legal framework surrounding it. It was a period of exploration and growth for the Indonesian music industry, akin to youthful indiscretions where learning and development were ongoing. Phase 2: The Licensing Era (1988-1997), the party came to a halt when Bob Geldof, the man behind Live Aid, raised a ruckus about rampant piracy in Indonesia. This spurred the government to enact copyright laws in 1988, forcing a major shift in the industry. We were adaptable and embraced this change, Aquarius as a legitimate operation licensee began after WEA, EMI, JVC and Pony Canyon appointed Aquarius as their official licensee in manufacturing & distribution for Indonesian territory, we were also the legal importer and distributor of EMI and SONY's product (mainly CD) up to early 2001. While we still continued to be an official licensee for other labels, its license with WEA and EMI ended in 1995 and 1997 respectively. It was a time of legitimization and collaboration, marking a new era of respect for intellectual property.Phase 3: The Indonesian Sound (1997-present), with the licensing landscape settled, Aquarius turned its attention to the vibrant sounds of Indonesia. This phase saw the label championing homegrown talent, producing iconic Indonesian artists and shaping the nation's musical identity. From pop to rock and everything in between, we have been instrumental in bringing Indonesian music to the forefront.

Aquarius Musikindo is one of the largest recording companies in Indonesia that produces music and provides entertainment services whilst still being the main source of great music that touches generations.  Now, we are taking a bigger step through fresh new talents and releases, as well as initiative programs and activations.

Let's collaborate.
